Woke up today and had feeling in my pinkie again. No numbness or tingling. That is good news.
No pain and still not taking any meds except my antibiotic. Only pain was when I accidentally bumped my arm on a chair. Gotta be more careful I guess.
Getting dressed and showering is a pain but that was to be expected.
EDIT: After talking to the nurse who called to check on me, I learned that the numbness in my pinkie was due to a nerve block. Once that wore off I was fine.
For those having ulnar nerve transposition surgery, I have created this blog to share my recovery experience. This is my second time having this surgery (my other elbow required it the previous year.) It is my hope that others having this surgery will find this blog useful if they are wondering about the details and time frame of a typical recovery. Fingers crossed that my recovery will be typical!
I hurt the whole first two weeks and still have no feeling in my pinkie at 5 weeks.
ReplyDeleteFeeling better - numbness starting to feel okay. Slept good - propped my arm on a pillow. Slept sort of upright by putting large pillows in my bed. Works well. Cooked breakfast one handed - can be done but messy. Haven’t been taking pain med since yesterday - taking Tylenol every six hours. Only day two but boy do I need my arm back. Haven’t tried a shower yet - remember to wrap your bandage in plastic! Seems weird my nerve isn’t where it once was - hmmmm Got snow twitching in my fingers - hopefully normal. Also using some ice on my elbow. Onward
ReplyDeleteJust had surgery Wednesday afternoon for an ulnar nerve transposition, sub muscular. Slept great the first night. I've been religiously using the ice a half hour on, half hour off. Been taking pain meds prescribed by the Dr every 4-6 hours. Might switch to extra strength Tylenol today. It's 3:30 AM and the pain woke me up. My fingers are also pretty swollen, despite me making sure to bend them often. Ice feels the best on it. Hopefully the swelling starts to go down today. I'm also supposed to elevate it for 24-48 hours, while continuing to use the ice fot 5-7 days.
ReplyDeleteI will try and update this throughout my recovery, it's the best blog I've found online so far. Thank you for that!!
