Days 3-6

Playing catch-up here.  I have been busy lately and there is not all that much to report.  Things are progressing as expected.  Still no pain from the incision site.  Most of the pain I am experiencing comes from my upper arm and shoulder from being in a sling.  Even if I remove the sling for a while, the pain is still present from keeping my arm in a bent position.  It would be very bad to straighten my arm at this point!

  1. I was allowed to take my dressing off in 72 hours and move my arm and shower normally.

  2. Day 3 - pain came back a bit. Doctor said that was normal and it would fluctuate. Went for a walk - still feel weak probably from meds and surgery. Taking a shower was a challange - get so done to help you. I didn’t and it was a hassle (used duct tape to adhere the plastic to my body :((( Felt better though afterwards! Getting bored - make sure you got stuff to keep you occupied otherwise you’ll be focused on your arm!!!! Still haven’t attempted to drive - might have to a some point.... I’m kinda solo on this thing!!! Sleeping was a challenge again because I have to stay on my back!!!!! Oh well I’m in now!

  3. Day 5 - the pain in the arm is almost nonexistent. Forgot to even take the Tylenol!!!! Been going for walks but still a little afrAis to go too far for fear of getting woozy. Four more days and I get a waterproof cast and the bandages off - this is a step in the right direction. Gotta say the doctor isn’t the best at communicating - had a little trouble getting post surgery answers. Have been ordering take out - fortunately in this day and age it’s pretty easy (Uber eats). Been flexing my fingers and they’re still stiff and a little swollen. Do this because if you don’t they will swell more. Bought ice packs too - can’t say I’m using them much. So bored - wow this really takes you down a notch. Appreciate your freedom - it may not always be there!!!! Sleeping better which is wonderful.... The dramatic part will be seeing if my arm acts any different - weird that my nerve is somewhere else now!!!!

  4. Day 3 is much better for me. Still some swelling in my fingers and I'm still using ice every other half hour. Very little pain today, finally!!
Like macd said, it makes you appreciate all the things you take for granted that are easily done with two hands. I didn't think about how difficult it would be to put my hair up in a ponytail... luckily there's youtube, those ladies are much better than me though. Can't wait to get this cast off.

  5. Day 5, pain came back yesterday morning and hasn't let up much since. Switched to Tylenol today, but maybe I should've taken the hydrocodone for longer than 2 days. Still icing it, but fingers are still pretty swollen, although I can bend them. I had submuscular transposition, I'm wondering if that's why it's still uncomfortable. It's also been raining and damp the last couple days which might be contributing to it. I don't know, hopefully it's normal. 8 more days until I can get this cast off, that will feel amazing, I'm sure.
